Yes / No Communication Keyrings – Practical, Personal, and Easy to Use (Version 1 – Text-Based)

This pair of "Yes" and "No" keyrings was created to help people communicate more easily when words are difficult or out of reach. The idea came from my partner’s work with people living with dementia, where clear, visual cues can make all the difference. That first need sparked the original emoji keyring design — and this new version builds on it using simple, bold text instead of symbols for even more direct understanding.

These text-based keyrings are ideal for a wide range of settings: in classrooms, with neurodivergent individuals, in care environments, or even just around the house. A quick glance or gesture with one of these can answer a question, reduce frustration, and make everyday interactions smoother.

I’ve donated a few sets to a local primary school, where they’re already proving popular with students and staff alike — helping kids speak up without having to find the words. They also make fun, functional keyrings or even shopping trolley tokens when resized.

🧩 Version 1 – Three-Part Construction for Easy Printing and Customisation

This three-layer design is based on my earlier emoji keyring layout and developed for better readability, alignment, and customisation. Each keyring includes:

A front face with cut-out text (“YES” or “NO”),

A contrasting coloured insert for visibility and personal flair,

A back plate to finish the piece and make it solid and durable.

Initially, I used a simple circular insert — but getting perfect alignment was tricky. So I redesigned it with a keyed insert, which locks the pieces in place cleanly and securely. Along the way, I also rounded the edges to make the keyrings safer, softer to hold, and more accessible for small hands or anyone with sensory sensitivities.

Print the YES and NO front and back pieces.

Choose your insert colour — classic green and red, or personalise it however you like.

Glue the three layers together, and you’ve got a clear, bold tool for everyday communication.
