Presenting the Extruder Front Shell Cover of the K2 Series

Modeling this part with accurate dimensions was quite a challenge. It is a faithful and very precise copy of the original, with only small modifications that simplify FDM printing and slightly reinforce certain elements. When printed in resin, it is essentially the same as the original.

Purpose: To prepare a transparent extruder housing using resin 3D printing.

The model is also suitable for FDM printing, making it an excellent base for different modifications and projects.

Combined with the transparent toolhead cover, the effect will be even better. The toolhead cover is available on my website:

⚠️ Note: If your goal is simply to replace a broken extruder housing with a new one, this model will certainly work. However, I believe it is better to buy the original — the factory material is much more resistant to abrasion caused by filament.

Printing Instructions:

This model contains many fine details, so your printer must be well-tuned to ensure dimensional accuracy. The best results you will have on resin printer.

For FDM it is strongly recommended to reduce the print speed to 50% (even slower than the speeds included in my 3MF profile).

Supports are required. In particular, make sure to enforce supports in the cutter area (see attached photo).

The provided print settings are optimized for PLA (prototypes), but using a stronger filament is recommended for functional part. Extreme materials are not necessary as this are is not faced to high temperatures or forces.

Key Print Settings:

• Wall generator: Arachne

• Ironing: Optional (enable on all top surfaces if desired)

• First layer walls: Only 1 (for better aesthetics)

• Walls: 4 total

• Supports: Adjust the Top Z distance carefully, since supports will be visible on the front surface (aesthetic consideration)

• Layer height: 0.08 mm

• Nozzle: 0.4 or 0.2

Post-Processing Notes:

• There is a very small hole designed for a tension spring in the filament sensor area. You may need to manually re-drill it after printing. The hole diameter must not exceed 0.5 mm, or the spring will not provide sufficient tension.

• Inspect the cutter inlet before installing the magnet. The cutter must slide smoothly, with no resistance. Remove any support interface residue from this area.

• A brass insert can be installed in one of the side holes for a screw connection. While this improves durability, it is optional for most use cases.

• You can get the internal parts from your old front cover.

• PTFE Tube connector has been changed go G10 standard one - it is stronger than original one and will prevent PTFE tube from falling out (known issue of K2).
