Card-Edge Ice Scraper

The Card-Edge Ice Scraper is a compact, functional winter tool designed to turn an everyday credit card or gift card into an effective windshield ice scraper. Inspired by planer- and razor-style tools, the card is held at a fixed, optimized angle to provide smooth, controlled scraping without excessive flex.

The card is secured in place using a printed thumb screw featuring both grip-friendly lobes and a coin slot, allowing the card to be tightened firmly by hand or with a coin. This makes it easy to swap cards as needed while keeping the blade rigid during use. It’s also a great way to repurpose all those depleted gift cards that tend to pile up after the holidays—giving them a second life as a practical winter tool.

A knurled grip surface provides excellent hand traction and also serves a secondary purpose—when the tool is flipped upside down, the knurled section can be used to help break up thicker ice or stubborn frost before scraping. The front of the tool features a plow-like leading edge that helps push ice and snow away from the user while also protecting your fingers from sharp ice fragments during scraping.

The design is fully optimized for printing without supports, with geometry, angles, and bevels carefully chosen to ensure clean, reliable results. The print orientation is also designed so the layer lines run parallel to the scraping force, maximizing strength at the card edge while minimizing the risk of chipping or breakage.
