Creality CFS Desiccant Tray

There are many good offerings of desiccant trays to print online, I’ve tried the open tray design, which I found to be great with the black desiccant covers supplied with the CFS, however I wasn’t able to maximize the amount of desiccant I could fill and make it easy to remove without making a huge mess. With my improved design I do away with the black desiccant covers and can safely place my desiccant tray in the CFS. The fit is snug and even turning the CFS on it’s side to access the mechanism beneath, there is no risk of the tray falling out or spilling desiccant everywhere. I’ve also incorporated an easy grab point to lift out the tray for refilling.

My design is best printed on a resin printer, but I’ve successfully printed with layer height 0.1mm, 100% infill and ironing on all top surfaces on my Creality K2 Plus with equal success using Sunlu White PLA plus filament in around 3hrs for one tray set. The print is functional but not as professional looking and clean as with the resin printer.

In my resin printer the trays are printed with the closed side of the tray directly on the build plate and the lid is printed with the long flat face on the build plate. I have an ****** Saturn 4 Ultra 16K and can print all 8 trays for my four CFS units in just 2hr 17mins in one go for under US$6. In the vertical orientation on the build plate they can be printed unsupported and easily come safely free from the plate with a little force while the plate is still mounted on the machine. I used ******** ABS-Like Pro 2 white resin at 50um layer height, fine-tuned with V3 Cones of Calibration. Due to the over exposure on bottom layers, there is a bit of ‘elephants foot’ which is not a problem providing you remove the bit engaging with the dovetail for smooth operation. Infact the extra material makes it easier to slide the lid out.

By the way I’m using activated alumina and with this tray (2-3mm beads) and with additional desiccant cells fitted in the spools. I can get my relative humidity right down to as low as 7%, and I live in Indonesia where the relative humidity is typically around 75%! I have no additional desiccant in my CFS’s to drop the RH lower.
