Overview

This project integrates a Raspberry Pi 5, 10.1" display, power bank, cooling system, and peripherals into an Apache 2800 case from Harbor Freight. This is a precursor to the Raspberry Pi Briefcase Pentesting Rig.

Assembly Instructions

1. Assemble the Base Structure

Step A – Connect Structural Base Pieces

The primary structural components of the base are:

• base_battery_holder

• base_pi_holder

These two parts interlock directly.

1. Align the tabs between base_battery_holder and base_pi_holder.

2. Press firmly until the tabs fully seat.

These pieces form the structural core of the lower assembly.

Step B – Install Keyboard Supports

The keyboard side pieces:

• base_keyboard_left

• base_keyboard_right

do not snap into place.

Instead, they:

• Friction-fit against the structural base components

• Rely on the case walls for lateral retention

Position them against the assembled base core and verify proper fit within the bottom half of the Apache 2800 case.

Place everything inside the case before installing electronics.

2. Assemble the Screen Bezel

Step A – Build the Front Bezel

Connect the following parts:

• screen_top_left

• screen_top_right

• screen_bottom_left

• screen_bottom_right

These pieces interlock using integrated tabs and slots, forming a rigid bezel frame around the display.

Press together firmly until fully seated.

Step B – Install the Display

1. Place the 10.1" display into the assembled bezel.

2. Ensure it sits flush and centered.

Step C – Install the Screen Back

1. Snap screen_back and screen_back2 together.

2. Position the assembled back panel behind the display.

3. Press into place so the back panel captures the screen firmly against the bezel.

The display should now be securely retained between the bezel and back assembly.

3. Mount the Screen Assembly to the Case Lid

The bezel includes integrated mounting pins designed to clip into the factory holes in the Apache 2800 lid.

1. Align the pins with the lid holes.

2. Press until the assembly clicks into place.

Optional Magnet Mounting

If a more permanent mount is desired, or if the printed pins break:

• Cut the factory holes off the lid.

• Sand the lid surface.

• Install disc magnets into the bezel and corresponding lid locations using adhesive.

• Allow adhesive to fully cure before use.

4. Install Electronics in the Base

• Place the Raspberry Pi 5 into base_pi_holder.

• Install both 40mm fans in the i_o_hub and connect them to the Pi.

• Install both USB hubs in the i_o_hub and connect them to the Pi.

• Install the ethernet extender and HDMI extender in the i_o_hub and connect them to the Pi.

• Route the display HDMI to the pi.

• Install the battery into base_battery_holder and route the pi and display power cables.

• Position the i_o_hub over the Pi area.

Note: The screen HDMI and power cables route through the integrated rear channel on the bezel. This prevents cable pinching and maintains clean routing when closing the case.
