Stop / Go Emoji Keyrings – Visual Communication Made Simple (Version 1)

This fun and functional set of “Stop” and “Go” emoji keyrings was created to support clear, non-verbal communication — inspired by my partner’s work with people living with dementia, and the everyday challenges they face expressing needs and emotions. That first spark led to my original emoji keyring design, and now this version offers an even more immediate way to convey a message with a glance.

These emoji-style keyrings are designed to be instantly recognisable and friendly — perfect for children, neurodivergent individuals, or anyone who might benefit from visual cues over words. Whether it’s used in the classroom, in care environments, or just clipped onto a bag or lanyard, these keyrings help say what needs saying: stop or go, loud and clear.

I’ve already gifted sets to a local primary school, where the children have loved using them — both in play and in learning. And, yes, they also make brilliant keyrings or shopping trolley tokens!

🧩 Three-Part Build – Personalised and Thoughtfully Designed

This is Version 1 of the Stop/Go emoji keyring, built on the same 3-part method as my original emoji design. Each keyring consists of:

A front face with the cut-out emoji (a red stop sign or green go symbol),

A contrasting coloured insert that really makes the emoji pop, and

A solid back to complete the design.

During development, I realised that a single-sided keyring lets you see the reverse emoji through the cut-out — which wasn’t ideal. So, I added a contrasting blank insert between the two outer layers. The blank was originally a circle, but alignment was tricky, so I redesigned it with a keyed shape that ensures the three pieces fit together perfectly every time.

As the design evolved, I also rounded all the edges to make the keyrings safer and more comfortable for everyday use — especially for small hands or those with sensory sensitivities.

Print the Stop and Go emoji fronts and backs.

Choose your insert colours — bold red and green, or personalise them with your own colour scheme.

Glue the layers together — and you’ve got your own unique emoji communication tools!
