What Is a Lithophane?

A lithophane is a 3D model where lighter areas of the photo are thinner and darker areas are thicker. When light passes through it (like from a lamp or a window), the picture becomes visible.

Step 1: Choose the Right Photo

Pick a high-contrast image (portraits, pets, and nature scenes work great).

Avoid very dark or overly detailed images.

Convert your image to black and white for better results.

Step 2: Convert Photo to 3D Model

Model type: flat, curved, or nightlight shape

Maximum thickness: 2-3mm works well

Image settings: positive image, normal orientation

Step 3: Slice the Lithophane

Infill: 100% (you want it solid for light diffusion)

Shells: At least 3 walls for strength

Material: Use white or very light-colored PLA for best results

Cooling: Keep cooling ON for sharp details

Step 4: Print Settings

Print vertically (standing up) if possible - better image sharpness

Use a slow print speed (35-45mm/s)

Ensure your bed is level and adhesion is solid
