Want to add weight to your print? Don't push down on the bed! ⚠️🔩 Hey everyone, a lot of us use this hack: set the infill to 5–10%, wait for the walls and bottom to form, pause the print, pour in a weighting material (sand, lead shot, nuts, steel pellets), and then resume. The result is a solid, heavy part with minimal plastic use. BUT! There's one thing that ruins the magic. When you pause the print and push down on the build plate while pouring in the filler or placing magnets — the bed shifts. Even by a millimeter. And what happens next? ❌ When the print resumes, the nozzle starts printing in the wrong spot. ❌ You get a layer shift — the part is ruined. ❌ Or the nozzle crashes into the already printed walls and knocks the model off the bed. 🛠 How to do the weight-adding pause the right way: 1. Don't push on the bed. At all. Keep your hands over the part, but don't put any weight on the moving platform. 2. Use a small funnel or a folded piece of paper to carefully pour in the filler without touching the bed. 3. If you need to place magnets or nuts — use tweezers or thin pliers. No pressing on the bed. 4. Before the pause, make sure you have easy access. Clear the area and prep your tools in advance. 5. If the bed does shift — you can gently nudge it back toward the endstop, but that's a gamble. Better not to let it happen in the first place. Bottom line: Pausing is a great trick.
