Disclaimer: at time of writing this the Marlin is at version 2.1.2 which will be used. In the examples I use a Creality Ender-3 V2 with 512k and ‘A’ stepper drivers.

Adjust these parameters to fit yours.

Also it’s wise to document every screen of your printer by taking photos before starting.

First we need to download the Marlin firmware at https://marlinfw.org

Click ‘Download’

Then there will be 3 choices:

A ‘Release’ version

A ‘Nightly’ version and

A ‘patched’ version. This version will be used here. Click ‘2.1.x.zip’ to start downloading the file.

Click ‘View/Download’ for the configuration files.

Click ‘Code’ and ‘Download ZIP’ to get the configurations for Marlin.

After downloading these 2 files you’re ready to go. Close browser and open a file manager and navigate to the download folder containing the download.

Open the sub-menu on the ‘Marlin-2.1.x.zip file and click ‘Extract Here’

Repeat this for the ‘Configurations-release-2.1.2.zip’ file

Open the ‘Configurations-release-2.1.2’ folder and in there open the ‘config’ folder. This folder contains ‘default’ and ‘examples’. The ‘examples’ contains several machines using Marlin and there is also ‘Creality’ folder.

Here we choose ‘Ender-3 V2’ which contains several main boards and we choose ‘CrealityV422’. In there are 2 User Interfaces and we choose ‘CrealityUI’. There are several files inside which we all select to be copied.

Then we return to the download folder and click ‘Marlin-2.1.x’ folder. Then click ‘Marlin’ folder and paste the previous selected files into this folder.

Overwrite the old files inside the folder to make Marlin ready for your printer. Close file manager and continue with “Making Marlin firmware with Visual Studio Code”.
