Review of the Creality Official 3D Printer

When I first saw the Creality Official 3D Printer Filament Vacuum, I thought, “I need one of these!”

My goal was simply to keep my filaments sealed and extend their shelf life. So, about six months ago, I purchased one on Amazon for £20. It arrives in a proven Creality fashion good quality box everything is neatly packed and ready to go.

It comes with:

1 x Creality's 3D Printer Filament Vacuum

1 x USB Charging Cable

400 x 400 mm Reusable Vacuum Storage Bags

Here’s my take on its pros and cons after half a year of use:

Pros

1. Effective Moisture Control: Overall, the vacuum storage does a solid job protecting filament from humidity. Keeping moisture out helps prevent filaments from becoming brittle, which means fewer low-quality prints.

2. Ease of Use: The vacuum-sealing process is straightforward and makes it convenient to store filament without needing bulky or expensive alternatives. More on the downsides later, though!

3. Cost-Effective: Compared to filament dryers or larger vacuum storage systems, this product offers decent value, especially for hobbyists like me looking for an affordable way to keep filaments protected.

4. Versatile for Various Filaments: The bag size works well with multiple filament types (PLA, PETG, TPU, etc.) and fits standard spools, so there’s no need for extra equipment.

Cons

1. Pump Durability Concerns: Some users report issues with the electric pump, though I haven’t personally had problems. If the pump fails or loses power, the vacuum seal doesn’t hold, letting in moisture.

2. Design: The pump itself looks good, with a well-placed power button on top. That said, the design hasn’t helped with its performance.

3. Bag Seal Longevity: I’ve found this to be a bit hit-or-miss, possibly due to operator error. I always use the included clips to ensure a tight seal. While some reviews mention the bag seals wearing out, I think that’s unfair to Creality. Everything has a lifespan, and rough handling can cause damage around the seal.

4. Noise and Battery Life: This is the biggest drawback for me. The pump uses a rechargeable lithium battery (USB-chargeable) but doesn’t last long, needing frequent recharging if you have multiple spools. The pump is also loud, which can be irritating. When removing air from a single spool, it takes over five minutes – too long for regular use.

Conclusion

1. The Pump: I rate the pump 5/10. It’s noisy, lacks strength, and has limited battery life.

2. The Bags: The bags are of superior quality – thick, transparent plastic with a double lock seal and a well-placed threaded opening for the pump in the centre of the bag. They fit 1kg spools well, making them practical for most hobbyists. I’d rate them 8/10.

Final Thoughts: I’d suggest that Creality sell just the bags and leave out the pump. It’s hard to fit decent suction power into such a small device. For fun, I used my household vacuum to seal a bag with a full filament spool – it took less than two seconds and did a much better job (though the suction was so strong it bent the spool slightly!). In short, buy the bags and use a regular vacuum for the seal. Sorry, Creality, but the pump didn’t quite cut it.
