Design Concept:

I designed this with two things in mind. The first to focus on minimal material usage while producing a highly efficient and easy to use item. Both the body and the ends are majorly perforated for optimal airflow and absorption efficiency. The slots and diamond holes will not allow >1.6mm diameter silica beads thru. The cap just snaps on, and the unit slides (preferably with a slight friction fit) into the spool bore. Not that it is critical, but the ends do not protrude beyond the faces of the spool flanges. This allows for easy assembly and maintenance. I used clear transparent PLA for this project because seeing the desiccant color-change is much easier than with a solid opaque color. My second "thing in mind" was to ensure that this was an easy, fast, support-less, reliable and adjustable design. I'm happy with the outcome, and hope you will be as well. Oh, by the way... the relative humidity in my CFS never went below 36%. ONLY ONE of these, and the RH is now 15%.

Usage:

Mainly designed for use as a filament drying / maintaining mechanism essentially stored as a removable part of the filament spool.

When I'm not using a partially full roll, I make sure the desiccant is dry in the canister, and toss the whole nine into a nice air-tight dry-bag.

Printing Suggestions:

Use a .4mm or lower nozzle diameter to ensure detail in the perforations and the notch areas. PLA or PETG materials are recommended for durability and functionality, however, so far... PLA has worked fine for me and is generally less expensive than other alternatives.

Assembly Instructions:

Align the lid notches (there are three of them at 120 deg. increments) with the canister notches and "flat-hand" press-twist the cap on. Very easy after the first try! To make alignment easier, identify the three notched areas of the lid and canister with a permanent marker.

This is no longer a work in progress, as I have finally "dialed in" this model. I'm sorry it took so long. The bottom has been thickened to stop silica beads from escaping due to the flexing of the original models thin base. The lock nubs have been enlarged for a nice, reliable snap fit.
