Vase modeled in Maya: Wanted to try my hand at an undulating, twisting, ephemeral form. It is constantly "in flux".
Provided two different stl files:
flux_vase.stl : Has no top or bottom. This is what I printed with in Simplify3D since it handles forms like this fine (nice!).
flux_vase_solid.stl : Has a top and bottom, making it a solid volume if your slicer needs it. Note I've not tried to actually print this one.
Sliced in Simplify3D & printed on Makerbot Replicator (1) with these settings:
200 micron, 2 shells, no infill, no roof, 4 bottom layers.
Natural PLA @ 200 deg, HBP off.
No raft, no supports.
90mm/sec print, 120mm/sec travel.
Took around 5.25 hours.
Note if I printed this again I'd use 3 or 4 shells : While this needs no support, if you want it water-tight you'll need more shells to help the extreme angles for the folds in the middle area.
