There is a plethora of reasons to get into 3D printing. Maybe you just try it out because it seems a cool thing to do. Or you might have heard that it can be very useful for DIY fixes for household problems. Or you are looking for a new hobby.

For me, it is the challenge of the creative process that is involved with bringing ideas into reality. I cannot recount how many times I have seen a good piece of concept art or a model in a video game thinking to myself: „How cool would it be having a physical representation of that standing on my desk?“

If you like collecting stuff (and I don’t mean unlocking a new champion or a new piece of gear in an online game) from video or online games you are usually very limited simply by the fact that it doesn’t exist.

But what 3D printing does for me now, is make all of those assets real (in a literal sense). Imagine being able to just recreate anything you like from your favorite video game. Of course, you still need to master 3D modeling software to do that. But once you do, only your imagination is the limit.

There might be a certain sense of completion in unlocking something new in an online game. But if you unlock the skill of 3D modeling and printing, now you can unlock any new champion or ship or tank or whatever you like in real life and this will elevate the sense of accomplishment even more.
