Autosort4ConnectCompact

Design Concept

This game is a modified and 60% scaled version of my Autosort4Connect.

The game can be clicked on the base to store the pieces. With the flat base it has a size of about 10*10*1.6 cm³.

The size is at the minimum limit of the printing. Some finishing work might be necessary to ensure that the pieces slide smoothly through the game (clean the pipes, remove overhanging seams at the pieces). You might also slightly scale everything up.

The rotating image show the game which was scaled 15% larger. It was printed with CR-Silk blue/green, the pieces with CR-Silk silver, gold, and red copper (You may decide, which pair of pieces fits better). It works very well without much finishing!

Print Settings

K1 printer, I had best results with Hyper PLA.

(Soleyin Ultra PLA required finishing work or scaling up everything.)

Standard print settings, except some minor adaptions as follows for the individual parts (compare also the uploaded project file).

No additional support required!

For the pieces (pieces 1+2), I used ironing of the topmost surface. For the round pieces (piece 2), I used random seam.

For the versions which I printed with rainbow filament, I first printed the base (3 or 4 pieces on the print plate), then I directly continued to print the game (3 or 4 pieces on the print plate) for a smooth color transition.

1) Base:

Two variants: Either the “Base_short” (based on the original game, which might be too short to pick up the pieces for large fingers) or the “Base_larger+flat. The latter only fits to the game at one specific position where I provided two additional cavities in the release section of the game.

PEI Plate B - I like to use it for structured bottom side. (In my case no brim for adhesion was required).

Each version: 32m printing time (20g Hyper PLA).

2) Game:

The game has the release mechanism “print in place”, no support is required.

2h01m printing time (31g Hyper PLA).

3) Piece 1/Piece 2:

Each 21 required, I placed 22 on the print plate in my files and games to have a spare piece of each one. I used ironing of the topmost surface (so bottom and top of the pieces are smooth, it is worth to invest the time!).

Piece 1: 26m printing time (7g Hyper PLA)

Piece 2: 22m printing time (6g Hyper PLA).

Assembly

1) Base:

The pins for holding the game should be smooth, otherwise if required grind away unevenness (was not required when scaled up 15%). If the game is too strongly fixed to the base, hold the base firmly at the left and right side of the game and try to carefully wave/wiggle the game slightly to left and right while pulling upwards (to avoid force in the wrong direction).

2) Game:

The complete release is already print in place. The support material below the bars just has to be clipped away. You might feel with your finger nail or a small piece of plastic, if the support material is completely removed at all positions.

Clean the pipes from remaining filament. This might not be necessary, but if the pieces got stuck, you might have to carefully push them with a small tool (a small screwdriver or wooden stick) for the first times using the game. Sometimes knocking the game when a piece got stuck might also help.

3) Pieces:

The pieces can be released from the print plate by slightly bending the plate carefully. Some overhanging seam at the corners might better be removed by grinding to allow a smoother gliding (was not required when scaled up 15%).
