K2 Plus First Layer & Bed Mesh Analysis ... The Good, The Bad, and The Wobbly Alright, fellow print nerds, let’s talk about my latest first-layer adventure with the Creality K2 Plus. You know the drill... new bed, new print, and an obligatory deep dive into bed leveling, because of course the printer thinks it’s an abstract artist rather than an engineer. 📌 First Layer Review : A Solid Attempt at Perfection At first glance, the first layer looks pretty solid. Adhesion? Full coverage? No catastrophic spaghetti incidents? It laid down smooth with a hint of that classic diagonal texture, which could be a sign of slight over-extrusion or the nozzle thinking it’s in a toxic relationship with the bed and refusing to let go. The edges are looking crisp, but the middle is getting a little too cozy with the nozzle, which... spoiler alert!!! Matches up perfectly with what we see in the bed mesh scan (we’ll get to that horror show in a sec). No major gaps or under-extrusion, so I’m calling this a win… for now. 🛠️ Bed Mesh : The Plateau of Doom Now, onto the real star of the show: my bed mesh heatmap, which is doing its best impression of a mini Himalayan mountain range. • Range of deviation: 0.863mm. Which, if you’re new here, basically means the center is playing king of the hill while the outer edges are just hanging out, barely making contact. • High point? Smack in the middle. Low points? Basically, everywhere else. • What does this mean? Well, the nozzle is pressing down a little too much in the center (hello, over-compression!) while the edges aren’t getting the same love, leading to a slightly uneven first layer. 💡 Fixing This Mess So, how do we tame the beast? A few tweaks should help: > Re-run ABL : Always a good idea to refresh your bed mesh data, because printers have the memory of a goldfish. > Manual Bed Inspection : Just in case my print bed is secretly moonlighting as a trampoline. > Slight Z-Offset Adjustment : Raising it a hair could help avoid the ‘squish of death’ in the middle. 🎯 The Verdict This first layer is good, not perfect, but definitely usable. Bed leveling is mostly doing its job, but the high center spot is something to keep an eye on. Moral of the story? Never trust a printer to be level... it’s like expecting a cat to listen when you call it. If you made it this far, congrats... you’re as obsessed with first layers as I am.
